French Tigers striker André-Pierre Gignac became the holder of the most goals (125) scored by a European footballer in the Mexican league, thanks to a brace on Sunday against Toluca (2-1), who qualifies furthermore his team for the finals.
The previous record of 124 goals had been held since 1946 by the Spaniard Isidro Langara, who had established it by scoring 19 goals with the Euzkadi team in the 1938-1939 season then 105 with the España team (27 in 1943 -1944, 38 in 1944-1945 and 40 in 1945-1946).
It was therefore only 74 years after that this record was broken, thanks to a double from the former Marseillais on Sunday: in the 34th first, from the head then in the 38th, with a powerful shot in the right skylight.
With 13 goals on the clock this season, Gignac is at the top of the Mexican league scorers standings.
He is therefore still in the running to win the title of "goleador" of the competition, after having already been twice, in 2016 and in 2018.
In the quarterfinals of the Mexican championship, the Tigers will face Cruz Azul.
