Xinhua News Agency, Moscow, November 19 (Reporter Wu Gang) Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov and French Foreign Minister Le Drian had a telephone conversation on the 19th to discuss the implementation of the ceasefire agreement in the Nagorno-Karabakh (Naka) region.

According to the communiqué published on the website of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lavrov and Le Drian discussed the current situation in the Naka region and emphasized the importance of fulfilling the previously signed ceasefire agreement in the Naka region.

The two foreign ministers believe that helping refugees return home safely, restoring economic and transportation links in the Naka region, restoring civilian infrastructure, and providing humanitarian assistance are priority issues that should be resolved.

The communiqué stated that the foreign ministers of the two countries exchanged views on the measures that should be taken to solve the Naka issue in a long-term and comprehensive manner based on the principles reached within the framework of the Minsk Group of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.

They also agreed to maintain close ties in strengthening diplomatic cooperation between the two countries.

On the 9th of this month, the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a statement announcing a complete ceasefire in the Naka region from 0:00 Moscow time (5:00 Beijing time) on the 10th.

The Naka region is located in southwestern Azerbaijan, and its residents are mostly Armenians.

After the disintegration of the Soviet Union, war broke out between Azerbaijan and Armenia over the ownership of the Naka region.

In 1994, the two sides reached an agreement on a comprehensive ceasefire, but the two countries have been in a state of hostility due to the Naka issue, and armed conflicts have occurred from time to time.

On September 27 this year, a new round of conflict broke out between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
