The centrist MP Francisco Sagasti became on Monday November 16 the new interim president of Peru, with the task of putting an end to the serious political crisis that is shaking the country.

This 76-year-old engineer, who worked for the World Bank, was elected President of Parliament by the deputies, and automatically becomes head of state, according to the Constitution.
