Today, the World Health Organization expects the discovery of a vaccine for the emerging corona virus (Covid-19) within months, while the United States has allocated half a billion dollars to produce a drug whose experiments have reached advanced stages, and this comes at a time when new waves of infection have intensified in France and England.

The Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said that a vaccine is expected in late 2020 or early next year.

Ghebreyesus added that the pandemic can be overcome quickly if countries use the right tools, warning that failure to use these tools will lead to the pandemic's survival for a long time.

For his part, the British "AstraZenica" laboratory announced that the US government will allocate about half a billion dollars to produce and distribute a treatment for Corona on a large scale that the laboratory works on, and has reached advanced stages in clinical trials.

It is assumed that the funds amounting to 486 million dollars will be allocated to develop and distribute 100,000 doses by the end of 2020, and to acquire one million additional doses in 2021.

To date, the epidemic has resulted in the death of more than one million and 77 thousand and 849 people in the world, and the injury of more than 37 million and 500 thousand people, according to a toll prepared by the French Press Agency.

The United States is the country most affected by the number of deaths, followed by Brazil, India, Mexico and the United Kingdom.

Alarm system

In the face of the resurgence of the virus, the British authorities announced the reopening of 3 field hospitals that were established in the spring, with the provision of a warning system that simplifies the restrictions imposed at the local level.

These measures come after a new wave of infection, which saw more than 42,800 deaths (the highest in Europe) and about 604,000 positive cases.

And the health authorities explained that in the most affected areas in the northwest of the country, the situation began to affect hospital services that are not directly responsible for the epidemic.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson warned that "there is still no treatment nor vaccine for the disease, and unfortunately this means that with the increase in infections, the number of deaths will increase."

A strong wave in France

For his part, French Prime Minister Jean Castex declared that his country had entered a "strong second wave" of the epidemic, and that "there is no room for complacency after today."

He did not rule out if a closure is required in specific places, considering that the "general isolation" would be "completely disastrous" and "it should be avoided by all means."

On Wednesday, the country's president, Emmanuel Macron, is due to address the French.

In Europe, too, the Vatican announced that 4 Swiss guards were confirmed injured and placed in quarantine, indicating that 3 injuries were recorded in the past weeks.

On the fourth of this month, 38 new members of the Swiss Guard took the oath during a traditional open-air ceremony, and later the Pope received the new members with their families, and none of them wore a muzzle.

On the other side of the world, Malaysia announced the imposition of new strict restrictions after the virus spread again, noting that the Southeast Asian country has managed to contain the epidemic so far.

Malaysia imposed a very strict lockdown throughout the country last March after the detection of the first cases of the epidemic, but the country resumed its near-normal activity after that.

Malaysia has recorded about 16,000 HIV infections and more than 150 deaths, which is a far lower outcome than what was recorded in the neighboring Philippines and Indonesia.

For its part, China announced that it would conduct a massive testing campaign in the city of "Qingdao", which has a population of 9 million, after the discovery of 6 injuries.

According to the local health authorities, all the injured are related to a local hospital treating epidemic patients.

After discovering the injuries, 143,000 people were subjected to examination, in an attempt to identify the contacts of the main injured.
