42.4% of Al Ain school students suffer from obesity

Tawam Hospital, one of the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company - "SEHA" facilities, announced that the Community Nutrition Department has conducted a study on the prevalence of overweight and obesity and the associated risk factors for school students in Al Ain during the current year 2020.

The hospital explained that the study included a total sample of 1611 students aged 10 to 18 years from the city of Al Ain, in the United Arab Emirates, noting that the results of the study showed that the prevalence of obesity and obesity among school students in the city of Al Ain reaches 42.4%, which is The rate is high, and factors such as insufficient sleep duration and other lifestyle factors such as advanced age, physical inactivity, time in front of the TV, video games and smart devices, the living and educational status of parents, and dietary behaviors are largely associated with overweight and obesity in the UAE.

The study warned that obesity in childhood and adolescence is a serious health problem because it may lead in the long term to overweight and obesity in adulthood.
