It is noted that the radars recorded an air target approaching the Russian state border over the neutral waters of the Barents Sea.

The center reported that two MiG-31 fighters from the air defense forces of the Northern Fleet were taken into the air to identify the air target and prevent violations of the Russian border.

“The crews of Russian fighters identified the air target as a strategic reconnaissance aircraft R-1 Sentinel of the British Air Force and escorted it over the Barents Sea,” the NTSUO said.

The department reported that no violation of the Russian border was allowed, and stressed that "the entire flight of the Russian MiG-31 fighters took place strictly in accordance with international rules for the use of airspace."

On September 18, it was reported that a Russian Su-27 fighter was climbing to escort a US patrol aircraft over the Black Sea.
