The 2012 Olympic pole vault champion Renaud Lavillenie had his best competition of the season to beat his brother Valentin and win a 20th French champion title on Saturday in Albi, the 10th outdoors.

While Valentin Lavillenie was in the lead thanks to a bar of 5.70 m passed on the first try, his big brother managed 5.80 m on the second try, before failing three times at 5.90 m.

Returning to competition only at the end of August after a fractured left thumb at the end of June, the former world record holder improved his best performance of the season again, four days after spending 5.74m in Ostrava (Czech Republic) .
