China News Service, September 11, according to Japanese media reports, a Japanese freighter hit a rock near Mauritius, causing a large amount of fuel leakage.

The Mauritius government recently asked residents not to eat or sell fish and shellfish caught in the waters near the accident, saying that hydrocarbons, the main component of oil, were detected in some fish and shellfish in the polluted sea.

It is reported that the country has launched investigations in 8 locations where fuel oil has drifted. Among them, two of the fish sampled on August 14 and 15 detected hydrocarbons in their bodies.

Among the 13 locations on the coast where there is no floating fuel, a very toxic hydrocarbon was found in the shellfish in one place on the 24th.

The notice was issued on the 8th of this month, and the target is fish and shellfish near the coast about 20 kilometers away.

Fishing has been banned in this area.

The Mauritian government urges residents to notify the relevant authorities once they find someone fishing.

In addition, it is stated that there is no problem with eating fish and shellfish outside the target area.

Many fishermen in the southeastern part of Mauritius Island where the fuel accident occurred were unemployed.

The Mauritian government asked the Japanese government to provide support, including purchase fees for 100 fishing boats that can be fished in unpolluted distant waters, and training fees for about 500 fishermen, totaling 1.437 billion Mauritian rupees (about 230 million yuan).
