There are currently an estimated 180-220 bears in Västernorrland. Through a manure inventory that is also initiated in connection with the start of the hunt, the number will be clarified in more detail, a work that is expected to be completed next summer.

The last time a bear inventory was made was five years ago, and it showed that there were then between 300 and 350 animals in the county.

150 is the minimum limit

- After that, quite large allocations were made for the license hunt for a few years to reduce the number. And so it has become. That is why we have set the allocation a little lower this year, says Lars Wiklund.

The set minimum figure for the bear population in Västernorrland is 150 animals. If the inventory shows that the number of bears in the county is starting to approach that figure, the license hunt may cease in the future, says Lars Wiklund in the clip above.
