“The air communication was not interrupted at the initiative of the Georgian side. The Russian side did it. We were and remain interested in the restoration of regular communication, ”he said.

According to him, if Russia wants to restore flights, Georgia is ready "to put this issue on the agenda."

“However, everything, of course, depends on the epidemic situation,” he stressed.

Abashidze said that he intends to raise this topic at the next meeting with a member of the Federation Council Grigory Karasin, which is to be held in Prague.

“We plan to meet in September, but our meeting depends on the epidemic situation. The exact date is not yet known, ”he said.

Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov expressed hope that air traffic with Georgia would be restored in the near future. 

According to the decree of the President of Russia, Russian airlines have been temporarily banned from air transportation to Georgia since July 8, 2019.
