The Dutch Alfred Schreuder and the Swede Henrik Larsson have joined the staff of the new coach Ronald Koeman at FC Barcelona for two years, announced the Catalan club on Friday.

"FC Barcelona have reached an agreement with Alfred Schreuder and Henrik Larsson for their incorporation into the technical staff led by Ronald Koeman. Both signed until June 30, 2022," Barça said in a statement.

Larsson, a 48-year-old former Swedish striker, returns to Barça 13 years after leaving him as a player, and after offering a C1 (2006), two Spanish championships (2005, 2006) and a Supercopa de Spain (2005) at the club, under the orders of another Dutch coach, Frank Rijkaard.

He knows Koeman well having played with him at Feyenoord (1995 and 1997).

After his retirement from a player in 2009, Larsson coached in Sweden, Landskrona (2009-2012), Falkenberg (2013-2014) and Helsingborg (2014-2016, then 2019).

Alfred Schreuder (47) also started his coaching career directly after hanging up his boots in 2007. First assisting at Twente in 2009, he then became head coach of the Dutch club, before being sacked in August 2015 for lack of results.

Technician "expert in strategy" according to the Barça press release, he rebounded in 2015 on the side of Hoffenheim, where he will be the assistant of Huub Stevens then of Julian Nagelsmann, who has achieved a historic journey with Leipzig this season in C1 . Hoffenheim then offered him the reins of the team, in 2019-2020.

After a detour as assistant to Erik ten Hag in 2018-2019 at Ajax Amsterdam, which he will manage to hoist until the semi-final of the Champions League, Schreuder will therefore find his Dutch prodigy Frenkie de Jong at Barça.
