On the 17th local time, the first court hearing after the Meng Wanzhou extradition case entered the second stage of trial ended the first day of public hearing in the British Columbia High Court in Vancouver.

The hearing started at 10 a.m. and ended at 4 p.m. Before it ended, Judge Heather Holmes used the audio system to ask Meng Wanzhou, who was attending the hearing by phone at home, whether she would appear in court after the court hearing began. Meng Wanzhou replied, "Madam Judge, I heard it on the phone." The "court trial" that the judge said will be conducted in September this year.

In the first phase of the trial of Meng Wanzhou’s extradition case, Meng Wanzhou’s lawyer requested the judge to terminate the extradition procedure on the grounds of “non-compliance with dual criminality”. On May 27, the judge made a judgment and rejected Meng Wanzhou’s lawyer. This request.

Since then, the case entered the second stage. Meng Wanzhou’s lawyer requested the judge to terminate the extradition procedure on the grounds of “procedural abuse”. In the court hearing on the 17th, the documents requested by Meng Wanzhou's lawyers to be disclosed involved part of the reason for "procedural abuse", that is, the "improper behavior" of law enforcement agencies violated Meng Wanzhou's charter rights.

In addition, Meng Wanzhou’s lawyer also told the judge that from documents recently disclosed to them, it was known that more than two months after Meng Wanzhou’s arrest, the US authorities were still trying to obtain Meng Wanzhou’s laptop, mobile phone and tablet. The information in the computer, however, the Canadian government denied providing such information to the United States.

When the court adjourned, it did not determine the opening time on the 18th and whether it will be made public to the media. A decision will be made later on the 17th.
