After the tears, the anger. Thousands of people gathered on Saturday afternoon in central Beirut to demand accountability from the authorities, four days after the deadly explosion at the port, which left 158 dead and more than 6,000 injured, according to a new report from the Ministry of Health.
"Revenge, revenge, until the fall of the regime," chanted the demonstrators, some of whom brandished gallows, as security forces tried to prevent certain groups from advancing towards Parliament.
The toll of the explosion, which devastated entire neighborhoods of the Lebanese capital, has been revised upwards by the Ministry of Health. Conversely, the latter brought to 21 the number of people still missing, whereas he previously mentioned several dozen. The previous death toll from the terrible explosion was 154 dead and more than 5,000 injured.
