Several types of crime decreased during the corona pandemic during the period March and April, according to police who have measured the development through the number of reports received. According to the police, the reduction is due to the corona virus which led to less mobility outdoors.

Before the summer, the police see a risk that the crimes will increase to a level that you are used to.

For example, offenses such as burglaries and thefts in stores have gone down by more than 13 percent, according to police. This is the type of crime that the police associate with foreign leagues, among other things.

- People do not want to move outside and then the infringement in stores decreases. The offenses are, as we have said before, linked to foreign leagues, says Per Engström, responsible for the police's corona efforts.

There is a dark figure

But the picture is not without problems. When it comes to crimes such as domestic violence and crimes against children, it is difficult to measure at present - the reason is that according to the police there is a dark figure for these and that a large part does not come to the police's knowledge.

- Schools are closed and you can't get in touch with the children. Here I think we have a dark figure. We look forward to when the schools open and are back to normal by the end of the summer so we get a different picture. You sit in isolation in your home and lose the normal social protection network, the workplace is important in these things too.

Drug crime is increasing

At the same time, figures show that the number of reported drug offenses has increased, with notifications landing at 26.6 percent. According to the police, this is partly due to the fact that the focus has been on that type of crime but also that fewer people are out and about.

- It only takes a while for the drug to adjust its paths. There has not been a reduction in the supply of drugs, but it is finding new ways.
