  • Since Tuesday evening, all of the candidates for the 2nd round of the municipal elections have been known.
  • In the Grand Est, only two of the main cities already know their mayor: Reims and Troyes. In the others, it will therefore be necessary to vote again.
  • What forces will there be in Metz, Nancy, Colmar, Châlons-en-Champagne, Illkirch or Mulhouse? We decipher all this.

Rémois and Les Troyens can book their weekends. On Sunday June 28, they will not go to vote. With them, the municipal elections were settled from the 1st round with the respective renewals of Arnaud Robinet (66.32% of the votes) and François Baroin (66.78%). Two exceptions among the main cities of the Grand Est. Overview of the forces present before the 2nd round.

In Metz, "it's going to be very tight"

In the Moselle capital too, there will be three candidates for the 2nd round. But this should be summed up as a left-right duel. On the one hand, the socialist Xavier Bouvet (24.97%), supported by the outgoing mayor Dominique Gros as well as environmentalists and communists. On the other, Senator Les Républicains François Grosdidier (29.76%). The latter has chosen to merge with the former departmental referent LREM, Béatrice Agamennone (6.19%). "She had already been in discussion with Bouvet but he had decided to renew the same list", clarifies an expert in the local context. “Grosdidier offered him second place because he wants to revive the image of the center-right ecological brand that has long made mayors in Metz. What promise a good grip at the end of June, of which the representative of the National Rally, Françoise Grolet (11.79%), should only be a witness from a distance. "It's going to be very tight. Bouvet has the wind in its sails but Grosdidier has solid networks to attract community votes ”, assures our observer.

In Mulhouse, Rottner plays big

His profession as an emergency doctor helping, the coronavirus crisis gave him a national dimension. The president of the Grand Est region, Jean Rottner, will still be on the front line during the second round of municipal elections. Mayor of Mulhouse from 2010 to 2017, this time he formed a duo with his successor, Michèle Lutz. The pair came out on top in mid-March, with 33.66% of the vote. At the end of June, it will be engaged in a quadrangular. Faced with Green Loïc Minery (21.96%), who allied with France Insoumise and the PCF, also facing the candidate of the National Rally Christelle Ritz (12.07%) or even against Lara Million (20, 13%). The latter, a candidate not backed by a political party, modified her list during the inter-round by making an alliance with Fatima Jenn, who had obtained 7.94% of the votes. What to change the balance of the 1st round?

Will Nancy move to the left?

The outgoing mayor and president of the Radical Movement Laurent Hénart (34.70%) seems to have got off to a bad start in Nancy. "He has a lot to worry about," confirms a local source. Why ? Because the alliance signed between the socialist Mathieu Klein (37.88%) and the ecologist Laurent Watrin (10.24%) seems to draw a boulevard to this union of the left. "Especially since Henart was more or less dropped by André Rossinot, the president of the metropolis", adds our specialist who sees "in a mechanical and automatic way" Mathieu Klein prevail at the end of June. The current president of the departmental council of Meurthe-et-Moselle should then choose between his two terms.

Born in Nancy or adopted, from all neighborhoods and from various professional backgrounds, they are committed for the vast majority for the first time in a municipal election. I am proud to present the expanded #NancyEnGrand list to @ NEC_2020 pic.twitter.com/q2xAtdY8cb

Colmar: life without Meyer

Omnipresent, omnipotent for some, Gilbert Meyer has directed Colmar since 1995. He abruptly left the scene Tuesday, not without noise. Weakened by health problems and faced with dissension in his own camp, the city councilor decided to… withdraw his list! Enough to open a royal road to its main adversary, Eric Strautmann. The deputy Les Républicains won their right-wing duel in the first round, with 37.45% of the vote against 32.46% for Gilbert Meyer. Facing him on June 28, the environmentalist Frédéric Hilbert (15.23%) leaves with considerable delay.

Illkirch avoids the pentagular

The fourth city of Bas-Rhin could have been a rare case in France. At the end of the first round, five candidates had obtained more than 10%. What to predict a pentagular? Finally, there will be "only" four in the 2nd round. At the head on March 15, the outgoing socialist mayor Claude Froehly (31.06%) obtained the reinforcement of his current assistant, the ecologist Richard Hamm (11.77%). On the right, the two candidates Thibaud Philipps (27.36%) and Rémy Beaujeux (11.80%) each stayed on their side, just like Pascale Gendrault (17.97%) on the other side of the board. The latter had not dragged on: by March 16, she had redeposited her list!

In Châlons-en-Champagne, Apparu is almost there

In the second city of Marne, the outgoing mayor Benoist Apparu was not far from winning the first round (46.03%). It will therefore be widely preferred in the quadrangular which will oppose it to the socialist Rudy Namur (25.55%), to Alan Pierrejean (various, 15.43%) and to the communist Dominique Vatel (12.97%). Former housing minister (2009-2012), Benoist Apparu is seeking a second term.
