A major fire in the Paris Notre Dame Cathedral occurred on April 15, 2019, and it lasted more than 12 hours.

According to the Ministry of Culture of France, the building was saved from destruction. The prosecutor's office in Paris believes that the cause of the fire is an unquenched cigarette or a malfunction in electricity.

The rector of the cathedral, Patrick Chauvet, admitted that Notre Dame could not be fully restored.

The French side officially invited Russian experts to participate in the restoration of the cathedral.
