French domestic intelligence officers detained a man on suspicion of preparing an attack on Notre Dame Cathedral. The suspect was an elderly Egyptian citizen who was in contact with the Islamic State*.
According to the republic's Ministry of Internal Affairs, over the past three weeks, five people have been detained. All of them are being investigated in separate cases, but each detainee had connections with theIslamic State. Previously, restorers in France mounted the spire for Notre Dame. It is completely identical to the one that decorated the temple before the fire in 2019.
