Yesterday, Jan Albert told Aktuellt about a new study conducted by the Karolinska Institutet and the Karolinska University Hospital, which was conducted to produce coronate tests for health care personnel. The study already used existing tests from healthy blood donors as a basis.

The preliminary results showed that 11 out of 100 bar on antibodies to the coronavirus in Stockholm. Today, the group behind the research has gone out with information that this is not true - they have used unsafe evidence.

- It really doesn't feel funny, Jan Albert tells SVT.

Unlabelled blood tests

The test used anonymous samples of blood samples that were carried out last year and partly in the last weeks 2020. It has now been found that the researchers cannot rule out that a smaller proportion of blood samples were made on people who had covid-19. Who has donated blood to produce plasma for the treatment of covid patients.

- In order for the study to be ethically defensible, we have been careful to de-identify the blood samples, which means that we cannot now see a difference between them. It may be that slimming with someone who had covid-19 among the other tests, says Jan Albert.

This could thus affect the results of the study.

- We also do not know if there is any error in the estimate, but we also can not guarantee that it is not so, so it is important to tell about it, says Jan Alberts.

"Want to be honest"

Thus, there may be fewer than 11 out of 100 infected, but how many can not say until they have done the study. In the coming weeks, they will start over from the beginning. The tests already done will be scrapped.

- What we will do now is exactly as we planned, we will extend the tests in the coming weeks. Now we are aware of the problem and can work on it. Since we are not entirely sure that our samples came from healthy blood donors, we want to signal that. We want to be honest.

A preliminary result

The figure of 11 percent infected in Stockholm was a preliminary result, which needed to be followed up, which was already planned, according to Jan Albert.

- We have checked the capacity and performance of the tests, it has not changed. But since we are not confident about the result, we want to signal this, says Jan Albert to SVT.
