The UAE, in cooperation with the World Health Organization, has sent a plane carrying 33 tons of medical supplies to Ethiopia to help about 33,000 medical workers. The shipment included 15 tons provided by the UAE to Ethiopia, about three tons provided by the state to the African Union, and 15 tons provided From the World Health Organization to support Ethiopia and other African countries in tackling the emerging coronavirus (Covid-19).
This initiative comes within the framework of the UAE’s cooperation with a number of countries to enhance global efforts to reduce the spread of the virus.
“The UAE is committed to a humanitarian approach that supports emergency relief in the countries that need it,” said Mohammed Salem Al-Rashdi, the UAE’s ambassador to Ethiopia. Through our partnership with the World Health Organization, we are proud to facilitate the delivery of this necessary assistance to Ethiopia, in support of our efforts to contain the emerging corona virus. ”
He added: "This assistance will enable the medical personnel to perform their duty in combating the spread of the virus in the country." He stressed that the UAE and its leadership stand by the people of Ethiopia and all the peoples of the world to overcome this humanitarian crisis.
For their part, the Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tidros Gebresos, and the Director of the Emergency Operations Department in the organization, Rick Brennan, praised the humanitarian and relief efforts of the UAE in combating the "emerging corona virus", through its continuous support to countries in facing this epidemic, and expressed He thanked them for the continuous support of the efforts of the UAE and the facilities it provided to facilitate its work to combat the Corona virus in a number of countries.
