Coronavirus: 100,000 police and gendarmes mobilized for containment in France

A vast movement control system in France will be set up Tuesday, March 16 as part of measures to fight the spread of the coronavirus and will mobilize 100,000 members of the police, said the Minister of Interior Christophe Castaner.

Up to 135 fine

The people who circulate must be " able to justify their movement ". The fines can go up to 135 € in the event of unjustified displacement, even if the breach of confinement is " currently punishable by a fine of 38 euros ".

" Each person must have a document attesting on their honor [...] the nature of their trip, their destination and their reasons, " added Christophe Castaner. This document will be downloadable from midnight on the website of the Ministry of the Interior and then gradually on all public sites.

Regarding travel for work, the Minister clarified that if travel to get to his workplace is well authorized, the government strongly calls to prioritize telework. He will also be allowed to travel to do his essential purchases, go to the doctor, travel to look after his children or do physical exercise only on an individual basis.

First round results retained

Despite the postponement of the second round announced earlier, the results of the first round will be retained: there will therefore be no new vote for the first round. This notably settles the question of the many mayors elected in the first round.
