• Coronavirus: Bolsonaro's press officer positive for coronavirus days after visiting Trump

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has taken selfies with his followers and celebrated that thousands of protesters gathered in the most important cities in Brazil this Sunday. This occurs days after he himself suspended the marches due to the expansion of the coronavirus.

Bolsonaro ignored the advice of doctors suggesting he would remain isolated after several members of his delegation who traveled with him to Florida recently tested positive for the virus. The President tested negative for the virus, as did the President of the United States, Donald Trump, after the meeting that the two held.

The newspaper 'O Estado de Sao Paulo' reported today that another member of the entourage that accompanied Bolsonaro to Florida has tested positive for the coronavirus, citing sources that press adviser Samy Liberman had contracted the disease.

Bolsonaro went down the ramp of the presidential palace in Brasilia with a Brazilian soccer jersey and met a crowd of protesters at the door , where he beat his fists, grabbed cell phones to take photos and took selfies.

In the video broadcast from his official Facebook account, Bolsonaro said that "it was priceless" to see so many protests in favor of his agenda, downplaying the warnings he released on Thursday.

"Although I suggested (a postponement), I cannot order anything because this protest is not mine ," Bolsonaro said. "With everything against them, the press, the virus, the recommendations, people took to the streets."

He insisted that the demonstrations showed support for his agenda and not attacks against any particular adversary. Leaving public health concerns aside, many have warned Bolsonaro not to encourage these protests with proclamations against democratic institutions like Congress and the Supreme Court.

In addition to Brasilia, there were also demonstrations in Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Belem.

"I am a Brazilian patriot and I want this country to be cleaned up. No coronavirus will prevent me from defending Brazil against criminals in Congress," said Claudia Santos, a protester on Copacabana beach in Rio.
