The jurors accepted the assassination thesis. Meeting since Monday to try three men involved in the death of Erwan Monterrosa, the Assize Court of Ille-et-Vilaine sentenced the two main perpetrators to 20 years of criminal imprisonment. The third accused, tried for helping to disappear the body of the young victim, received three years in prison.

The facts took place at the end of 2016 in an apartment in Saint-Jacques-de-la-Lande, a municipality bordering Rennes. Kylian Roulleau, 22 years old today and his best friend Luca, a minor at the time of the facts, were found guilty of the murder of Erwan, a petty dealer who supplied them with cannabis. The youngest admitted to having cut the victim's throat. His body was discovered two weeks later floating on the Vilaine, by a kayaker. The autopsy revealed that he had been beaten and then slaughtered.

A debt of 2,500 euros

The motivations for their act remained unclear throughout the trial, which began on Monday. The victim had loaned 2,500 euros to Kylian for the purchase of cannabis herb. A sum that Luca had been stolen from Toulouse. "Erwan was pressuring me to reimburse him," said Kylian, who admitted he was not threatened.

The accused, who was undergoing commercial training alternately with the victim, had more than enough to repay his debt, having a savings account credited with 6,000 euros.

A note "rope, gloves, quilt" attests to the premeditation

A large part of the debates focused on the premeditation of their act, accredited by elements of the investigation, such as a purchase of garbage bags of 100 liters, in which the victim was found. Or a note "Cord, gloves, quilt" written on Luca's cellphone, 24 hours before the facts. Objects likely to be used after the crime and the use of which the person concerned had difficulty explaining.

"They were not capable of the Machiavellianism of which they were found guilty," reacted Ms. Élodie Brault, lawyer for Kylian, saying they were "disappointed" with this verdict. Me Fabian Lahaie, who defended the mother of the victim, said his client "relieved, not as to the sentence but on the fact that the premeditation was retained".
