Gaël Monfils qualified for the semi-finals of the ATP 250 tournament in Montpellier by beating the Slovak Norbert Gombos in two sets 6-3, 6-4, Friday in Hérault.

Monfils, seeded number 1 of the Open de Sud de France and ninth at ATP, did not reproduce the scenario of his match of the day before when he conceded the first set to Adrian Mannarino, before repeat (4-6, 6-1, 6-4).

Faced with the 104th player in the world, the French quickly took the lead, breaking from entry, maintaining constant pressure on Gombos to no longer be worried and ending up winning in an hour and a quarter on his second match point.

The Parisian, winner in 2010 and 2014 of the Montpellier tournament, will face in the semifinals Saturday the Serbian Filip Krajinovic (44th ATP), qualified at the expense of Grégoire Barrère (6-2, 7-5).
