Sydney and several coastal regions have already been hit by floods. Friday was the wettest day of over a year in Sydney where several roads were closed, reports the BBC.

The weather authority BOM warned of "dangerous conditions" on Saturday and Sunday because of the weather. The heavy rain is expected to continue until the beginning of next week.

Extinguishes fires

At the same time, the rain provides a welcome help in the fight against forest fires that are still ongoing in the state of New South Wales. On Friday, there are no more fires that reach the highest level on the emergency scale.

Over ten million hectares have been burned in Australia since September, an area corresponding to almost a quarter of Sweden's area. 33 people have died and an estimated one billion animals have been devoured by the flames.
