Kenya is in mourning. Former president Daniel arap Moi, who ruled the country with an iron fist between 1978 and 2002, has died at the age of 96, a family member and a government source said.

"He died at home" in Kabarak, western Kenya, said a family member of the former president, wishing to remain anonymous. "The retired president has died," a government source confirmed, also on condition of anonymity.
