A 14-year-old teenager suspected of having fatally stabbed a young man of the same age in a brawl in Paris was indicted on Saturday and placed in pre-trial detention, we learned from the Paris prosecutor's office.
Wednesday evening, the police, called in the tenth arrondissement of the capital for a brawl between thirty people armed with sticks, discovered a young man injured with a stabbing weapon, according to a police source. Transported to hospital, he died of his injuries Thursday morning.
The same day, a 14-year-old boy was arrested, in particular through the use of images recorded by the police headquarters. He was presented on Saturday after his police custody to an examining magistrate who charged him with "intentional homicide", "intentional violence resulting in incapacity greater than 8 days aggravated" and "participation in a criminal association with a view to committing a crime ”. He was then placed in pre-trial detention following a decision by a liberty and detention judge, in accordance with the prosecution's requisitions.
Fighting behind several deaths
Brawls in the east of Paris and the northern suburbs of the capital have been the cause of several deaths of young people in recent years. In October 2019, a 17-year-old boy died of his injuries after being stabbed in a fight between rival gangs on Boulevard Mortier, in the XXth arrondissement. Ten young people have been charged with murder.
In July 2018, a 23-year-old man had died of a beating and a stab wound, also in the 10th arrondissement of the capital, in a settlement of accounts between bands of the 10th and 19th arrondissement who had involved about fifteen people. Six months later, the rapper MHD was indicted and remanded in connection with this case, for facts he disputes. To this day, he is still in prison. Eight other people are under investigation.
In the aftermath of the deadly brawl on boulevard Mortier, the Minister of the Interior Christophe Castaner had announced a “flat overhaul of the action plan” against the gangs, with in particular the establishment of “referents in each police station” and a “ mapping ”of these groups“ stairwell by stairwell ”.
