The “Vehicle Lifecycle” project launched by the Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai is among the projects of the first stage of the Dubai 10x initiative, the first integrated system in the world to document the history of vehicles using “blockchain” technology to save the history of 16 million cars in Dubai and provide all data and information It is available to all concerned parties, which contributes to enabling buyers and sellers to view all government and private documents related to each vehicle from its manufacture to its removal from service.

Dubai Roads and Transport Authority participated in the first version of the "Dubai 10X" initiative, launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, with the "Vehicle Life Cycle" project, with the aim of documenting the history of vehicles using technology "Block Chain", keeping the history of 16 million cars in Dubai, and providing all data and information within the reach of all concerned authorities.

The "Vehicle Lifecycle" project saves documented and transparent information about each vehicle over its life span, including data on the maintenance operations that the vehicle has gone through and the parts that have been replaced, as well as the transfer of ownership and the movement of sale and purchase of the vehicle as well as traffic accidents.

The project, based on the use of blockchain technology, raises confidence rates in the Dubai auto trade market and greatly reduces the possibility of tampering with any of the vehicle's documents.

Through this project, all relevant entities will be linked to the trade and maintenance of vehicles, such as exhibitions, manufacturers, importers, maintenance workshops and banks that finance the purchases, as well as insurance companies and electronic platforms for the car trade. Work is underway to connect this system to some similar platforms in Europe and the United States to provide historical information on cars imported from these markets. According to the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority, the project provides a "smart contracts" feature that replaces all paper contracts associated with the acquisition and transfer of vehicle ownership, and by using artificial intelligence technology the system can assist in pricing the car based on the information stored on it from its history since the purchase. The authority stated that the vehicle lifecycle project also includes records on vehicle owners and the history of their transactions in the Dubai auto market, noting that the project has an indirect impact on global competitiveness indicators by influencing indicators for automation of government services, and the evolution of the use of information technology in the government. The authority clarified that the project will represent a unified electronic platform that collects data and entities concerned with the vehicle sector from individuals, government departments, service providers, banks and spare parts providers, in addition to financial institutions and insurance companies, as well as new businessmen in the field of vehicle manufacturing and trade, and the smart system will also have several advantages, the most important Transparency and confidence in the procedures of vehicle handling, as well as improving the experience of dealers and allowing the field to focus on the service and creating new opportunities for services in the vehicle sector, overcoming the problem of not having a complete record on the vehicle, and providing a reliable source for collecting information on Vehicle history.

Vehicle history

The vehicle life cycle project is characterized by its ability to face many challenges, including the lack of a complete record on the vehicle despite the development of the current vehicle registration system, at a time when the buyer in the car market relies on multiple sources and some are unreliable to collect information about the history of the vehicle . Uncertainty and the possibility of manipulating the characteristics of the vehicle are among the most important major risks in the vehicle trade markets around the world and not only in Dubai, especially since the history of the vehicle plays an essential role in the decisions of buying and selling.
