January 31, 2020 The disembarkation operations of cruise passengers on the Costa Smeralda, destined to reach the port of Savona, have ended. The Port System Authority has made it known.

After the alarm that was triggered yesterday morning, the Ministry of Health announced that officially excluded the infection by Coronavirus for the Chinese passenger on board the Costa's flagship. In this regard, in fact, the Spallanzani exams in Rome gave negative results.

"During the day yesterday - declares in a note the president of the Port System Authority of the Tyrrhenian Sea North Central, Francesco Maria di Majo - the entire port community of Civitavecchia has mobilized to face the situation demonstrating strong synergy. It turned out to be an intense day, which ended, however, positively for the approximately 7000 passengers and crew members stranded on board. The excellent consultation between the competent authorities, meant that the matter, a very short distance from the news, was addressed and managed in the best way. I would like to thank the Harbor Master's Office, Maritime Healthcare, ASL Roma 4, the Border Police, the Guardia di Finanza, the RCT and the municipal administration for their strong commitment. As System Authority Port, yesterday morning I met the representatives of Costa Cruises who were on site establishing a close relationship of collaboration and continuous exchange of info rmation; I also thank them for the professionalism and seriousness shown. What happened yesterday, therefore, showed how, also for the future, the port of Civitavecchia is able to do its best to manage emergency situations ".

"The port system has proven to be able to provide efficient and effective responses in emergency situations. A special thanks to the maritime health, coordinated by Dr. Niutta, and to the ASL Roma 4 which had already prepared and subsequently implemented, is a must. Thanks to Dr. Quintavalle, precautionary measures for the management of these emergencies. I would also like to thank Rome Cruise Terminal, which with its structure has managed to manage the situation and provide useful assistance in alleviating the difficulties that have arisen for the ship and the passengers who would have had to embark, interfacing brilliantly with the forces deployed by the Costa Cruises company, "says in turn the captain of the port and the maritime direction, captain of vessel Vincenzo Leone.
