Marc Petit's conviction is not final, however, since he has appealed on points of law. Contacted by AFP, he was "not available" this Saturday evening. Marc Petit had been found guilty in February 2019 by the Saint-Etienne criminal court of the sexual assault of an employee of the communication service of the Puy-de-Dôme departmental council, during a trip to Istanbul on July 17, 2016 , during the classification of part of the work of the architect Le Corbusier as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Since this judgment, the majority of the elected members of the municipal council asked, in vain, for his withdrawal from the office of mayor and several of them resigned.
