Dubai Health Authority revealed that the fertility rate of Emirati women, during five years, decreased to 3.2 children per woman, after it was 5.2, with a rate of 38.5%, while the director of the Dubai Center for Gynecology and Fertility, Hana Tahura attributed the most prominent reasons to the late age of Marriage, change of lifestyle.

According to the annual statistical report for 2018, which was recently issued by the Dubai Health Authority, the general fertility rate in the emirate for women aged 15 to 49 was 1.2 children per woman, compared to 2.1 children in 2014, and the rate for women citizens was 3.2 Compared to 5.2 children in 2014, and for non-citizens 1.0, compared to 1.7 children.

The report attributed the reason for the decline in the fertility rate to several factors, including economic and social factors, for example, the increased demand for education and increased job opportunities for women.

And Tahoura told «Emirates Today» that the delay in the age of marriage contributed to the decline in the chances of pregnancy, in addition to the pressures of life and changing its pattern, which led to the decline in the chances of having children.

She noted that the authority is working on preparing awareness programs and community-based initiatives to reduce the fertility deficiency index targeting schools, universities, and shopping centers, as part of its strategic plan, and that it is also implementing community-based initiatives in cooperation with the relevant authorities to address the problem of late marriage.

“The Dubai Fertility Center has succeeded in implementing community-based initiatives and programs to raise the level of health awareness, prevent diseases that affect fertility, cooperate with the relevant authorities, give scientific lectures, and intensify awareness programs related to fertility for men and women related to the harmful effects of obesity, smoking, and others.
