In the past, approximately one intake a week was transported to the hospital for treatment, which involved both work with transport and decision.

"Transport itself is a safety risk"

- This is cost-effective and also advantageous from a safety point of view, as you avoid leaving the facility with the inmate. Transport itself is a safety risk. It is faster to treat as this is based on the fact that Region Östergötland comes to us, ”says Johan Molinder, head of construction Skänninge.

Will you continue with this?

- Yes, we are constantly evaluating our collaboration with other authorities and healthcare providers, and we see this as a positive development, says Johan Molinder.

40 patients have been treated at the facility

40 patients have now been treated successfully and as many transports have been saved. The care has been of a higher quality, since the inmates have not been transported to prison, but instead been allowed to talk to doctors and nurses in a single room.

The institution Kumla also works in close contact with the infectious clinic at the University Hospital in Örebro regarding hepatitis treatment of the inmates.

- It goes on to varying degrees. I know that Kumla has a collaboration on hepatitis C, says the chief of staff, adding that there are more areas to develop.

- We are currently focusing on this, but there are other areas where you could develop the collaboration to minimize the risks and the number of transport outside the facility, says Johan Molinder.
