Informal talks between the two leaders towards the reunification of the citizens Jan. 4:54 on January 8

The Constitutional Democratic Party and the National Democratic Party leaders who are continuing discussions on the union met informally on the evening of July 7. It is probable that they exchanged opinions on how to merge, where differences in opinion have emerged between the leaders.

At the end of last month, the Constitutional Democratic Party and the Democratic Party of Japan agreed that the secretaries-generals of the two parties would join the parties. Differences have surfaced.

Under these circumstances, Mr. Edano and Mr. Tamaki met informally for about three and a half hours at a hotel in Tokyo with secretaries-generals of the two parties at night. It is probable that at the meeting, opinions were exchanged over policies, party names, personnel affairs, and methods of consolidation that could not be coordinated by discussions between the secretaries.

With less than two weeks before the ordinary Diet meeting expected to be convened this month, Mr. Edano hopes to quickly reach an agreement and put in place a structure for the administration, while Mr. Tamaki is polite without a deadline. The adjustment is expected to continue in the hope of proceeding with discussions.
