Former Serbian striker Darko Kovacevic was shot gun tonight in an assault outside his home in the Athens suburb of Glyfada, the Athens news agency reported.

According to the first news, the former Serbian national player (46 years old) was injured in the knee and was taken to a local hospital. Kovacevic's injury may also have been caused only by falling to the ground after the shots. It appears that the unknown attackers shot Kovacevic from a car as he left his home.

Kovacevic made 59 appearances for Serbia from 1994 to 2004. He played nine seasons for Real Sociedad and also played with Stella Rossa Belgrade, Juventus, Lazio and Sheffield Wednesday, before ending his career with Olympiakos since 2007 to 2009. Today he is a manager of Olympiakos.
