The Children's Convention becomes a Swedish team

On January 1, the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child enters into force as a Swedish law. According to the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the best interests of the child are to come first in all measures concerning children. Children who are in a vulnerable situation should receive stronger legal protection. The law means, among other things, that courts and authorities are given greater obligation and increased opportunity to put children's rights into focus.

Britain is expected to leave the EU on 31 January. Then the country's negotiation for exit from the EU should be clear, but whether it really does get rid of is still unclear.

Melodifestivalen 60 years

2020, Melodifestivalen will be 60 years old. The first competition will be held in Linköping on February 1st. The following four weeks will visit the Gothenburg, Luleå, Malmö and Eskilstuna folk festivals. The final will be decided on March 7 at the Friends Arena in Stockholm.

European Championship in soccer

On June 12, the sixteenth European football championship will start. This is the first time that the European Football Championship is played in more than two countries. England, Azerbaijan, Denmark, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Romania, Russia, Scotland, Spain, Germany and Hungary are the host countries of the year. Sweden will play their first match against Spain at 21 June 15. The final will be played on July 12 at Wembley Stadium in London.

Germany President of the EU

On July 1, Germany will take over the presidency of the Council of the European Union after Croatia held the Presidency Club for the first half of the year. The Presidency has a central role in primarily international negotiations.

Tokyo Olympics

The 32nd Summer Olympics will be held in Tokyo, Japan and will be inaugurated on Friday, July 24. Russia will not participate because the nation has been suspended from international championships for the next four years due to doping. The final day of the game is Sunday, August 9. Tokyo Paralympic Games

22 sports make up when the Paralympic Games are held in Tokyo, Japan just two weeks after the summer Olympics. The competitions will be inaugurated on Tuesday, August 25 and conclude on Sunday, September 6.

Pippi Longstocking 75 years

In November 1945, the first book on Pippi Longstocking was published. Pippi is one of Astrid Lindgren's most famous literary figures, created as early as 1941. The Pippi books have been translated into 77 different languages.
