"There is no reason for us to unilaterally commit ourselves to the commitment anymore," Kim says in her New Year's Eve, according to the state news agency KCNA.

Kim Jong-Un also says in his speech that the world will soon see a new "strategic weapon" developed by North Korea.

"Don't sell our pride"

Kim accuses the US of screwing up its demands and adopting a "gangster attitude". He mentions that the United States has conducted military exercises with South Korea, "despite Trump personally promising to stop them" and sent high-tech military equipment to Seoul.

"We can never sell out our national pride," said the North Korean leader, threatening a "shocking current act" to punish the United States.

Deadline expired

Since the talks between North Korea and the US have stalled, North Korea has accused the Americans of delaying the process in the fall, and threatened to "embark on a new path" unless Washington made concessions by the end of the year. Kim Jong-Un has also resumed his rhetoric with bombastic insults against US President Donald Trump.

North Korea has not hinted at what the new road means, but US military has speculated that Pyongyang may be testing a long-range robot (ICBM), something the country has not done since 2017, when even nuclear weapons tests were stopped.

Pompeo hopeful

US national security adviser Robert O'Brien recently said Washington will respond with disappointment if North Korea tests long-range robots. Foreign Minister Mike Pompeo says he hopes North Korea will choose peace over confrontation.

"We still believe that we can find a common way forward to convince North Korea's leadership that their best option is to create greater opportunities for their people by getting rid of nuclear weapons," Pompeo told Fox News on Monday.
