The trial of an alleged business sponsor of the murder of Slovak journalist Jan Kuciak and his co-defendants opened on December 19. One of them has just signed a plea agreement with the justice system and has been sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Will we finally learn more about the murder of journalist Jan Kuciak who was investigating corruption? Murdered shortly after Maltese journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia , his murder and that of his girlfriend had sparked outrage in Slovakia and across Europe and led to the resignation of Prime Minister Robert Fico.

From the first day of the trial which opened in Pezinok, near Bratislava, Zoltan Andrusko had not appeared on the dock. This pizzeria owner had already negotiated an agreement with the justice system and was awaiting validation by the Court of his confession against a reduced sentence of 15 years in prison. Zoltan Andrusko therefore admitted to having served as an intermediary for the two murders.

The other four co-defendants have so far denied everything as a whole, the alleged sponsor in mind. This millionaire property developer had already been prosecuted for suspicious financial transactions.

Next January 13 when the trial resumes at the seat of the Special Criminal Court, the accused risk facing very specific charges. The 93-page indictment that leaked to the press also seems very substantiated. They all face life imprisonment.
