As noted, the monument was erected at the intersection of Valdeku Street and Viljandi Highway - at the site of the tank moat into which the Nazis dumped the bodies of the executed during the occupation. According to the estimates of search engines, the remains of more than 1.5 thousand people rest there.

The meeting was addressed by the adviser-envoy of the diplomatic mission Sergey Nalobin, who noted the importance of the work of caring for Soviet military burial grounds in order to preserve the memory of the victory over fascism.

Embassy staff, military attache Andrei Berezhnoy, members of veteran and search organizations laid flowers at the memorial and paid tribute to the victims with a moment of silence.

Earlier, the Russian embassy in Tallinn sent a note to the Estonian Foreign Ministry in connection with the demolition of the monument at the burial place of Soviet soldiers in the Lääne-Nigula parish.
