“We are calling for full responsibility for the killing of Khashukji from day one. These verdicts, as I said, are a step - an important step in this process, ”RIA Novosti quotes the representative of the State Department.

He noted that "the sentences were an important step in bringing to justice those responsible for the terrible crime."

Earlier, a Saudi court sentenced five defendants in the murder of Khashukji to death.

Turkey noted that the verdict did not meet the expectations of Ankara and the international community.

Khashukji was killed at the Consulate General of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Istanbul on October 2, 2018. Saudi authorities said later that he was killed in the diplomatic mission building as a result of the conflict.
