Heavy rain hit the economic capital Bujumbura again this Sunday morning, leaving at least 15 people dead and around 30 injured.

According to the assessment communicated this Sunday, December 22 in the evening by the mayor of Bujumbura, the heavy rains that hit the economic capital at the start of the day, left 15 dead, around thirty injured and nearly 90 houses partially or totally destroyed.

The affected neighborhoods are located northeast of the economic capital of Burundi , below the hills above the city. Each time it rains a lot, the scenario repeats itself. The runoff runs down the slopes, swells the rivers that come out of their beds and sweeps everything in the process. Several districts live under the threat of a disaster as soon as it rains.

The disaster on this Sunday is therefore not the first of its kind. The Minister of Public Security and Disaster Management General Alain-Guillaume Bunyoni went to detail the measures taken by the authorities.

The authorities are thus announcing the construction of temporary shelters for those who cannot find accommodation. The Minister of Public Security assures that everything is being done to restore the river to its normal course. He promises to remain vigilant in the event of further rains in the coming hours.
