US President Donald Trump said that representatives of the Democratic Party are violating the Constitution, as they are in no hurry to transfer the indictment under the impeachment procedure to the Senate. This was announced by the American leader during a speech to students in Florida, reports Reuters.

Trump once again sharply criticized the Democrats and recalled that the whole world is watching their actions.

“This is completely unfair,” Trump said a few days after the House of Representatives voted in favor of impeachment.

He added that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi chose this strategy because she has no evidence.

“They are violating the Constitution,” Trump said, while calling Pelosi “crazy Nancy.”

At the same time, he did not explain what exactly the violation consisted of.

On the eve of Pelosi’s office, they said that “until the House of Representatives has a better understanding of what the Senate hearings will mean, the speaker will not be able to appoint those responsible for the process (representatives of the lower house who will act in the Senate as prosecutors. - RT ) and move on to the next steps to bring the president to justice and ensure that the Senate fulfills its constitutional duties. ”

In turn, Trump recalled that 196 congressmen did not support the indictment against him as part of the impeachment procedure. The president added that “the three Democrats have come over to our side, but not a single Republican has gone over to their side.”

A few days ago, Donald Trump already demanded that the Senate immediately begin to consider the issue of impeachment. According to him, in the House of Representatives, where he had previously approved his resignation, he was not allowed to defend his interests. Trump said that there were no witnesses or lawyers, and also accused the Democrats of wanting to influence the proceedings in the Senate.

Trump also emphasized that Democrats hinder the passage of indictment to the Senate, because in this case, the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee Democrat Adam Schiff will have to testify under oath. Schiff is one of the leaders of the process against the president.

However, the Democrats themselves say they doubt whether the Senate consideration will be fair, given that the majority in the upper house belongs to Republicans supporting Trump. Recall that the leader of the Senate majority, Republican Mitch McConnell, has repeatedly expressed skepticism about the impeachment process launched by the Democrats.

The House of Representatives, in which the majority are held by Democrats, approved both articles of impeachment on Wednesday, December 18. In the first article, Trump is accused of exceeding his powers, and in the second - of obstructing the investigation of the chamber.

Trump, in turn, called the incident a “march of political suicide” by the Democrats and promised that a Senate vote would put an end to this investigation.

Of the 100 seats in the US Senate, the majority — 53 seats — are held by Republicans. To impeach the president, it is necessary to collect more than 2/3 of the votes of senators, that is 67.

Recall that among the charges, Trump is presented with an attempt to blackmail the Ukrainian president Vladimir Zelensky during a telephone conversation between them in July 2019. According to the Democrats, Trump demanded that Zelensky compromising on his rival in the upcoming 2020 elections, Joe Biden, allegedly threatening otherwise to stop providing military assistance to Kiev.

The fact is that in 2014, the son of Joe Biden Hunter worked for the Ukrainian company Burisma, in relation to which an investigation into the corruption case was launched. The American media reported that Biden Sr., who was then vice president of the United States, demanded to close the case and played a role in the fact that the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Viktor Shokin was dismissed.

According to the Democrats, it was the data in the Burisma case, as well as information about the role of Joe Biden, that Trump demanded from Zelensky. After the White House published the transcript of the talks between the two presidents, it turned out that Trump did not make Zelensky any demands, but only noted that it would be “nice” to deal with this situation.

Nevertheless, the Democrats believe that this is enough for allegations of abuse of power and subsequent impeachment.
