The author Olga Tokarczuk is a red blanket for Polish nationalists. Since the Conservative Nationalist Party Law and Justice (PIS) took power in 2015, the tone of the TVP has changed to become more government friendly and controlled. And the Polish government has previously blocked her from the list of cultural workers who are entitled to state aid for launch abroad.
The information that TVP would not broadcast Olga Tokarczuk sparked protests around Poland, including from the opposition Citizens Coalition, and a call to broadcast the ceremony was spread online. Apparently it took a screw.
