Several guns of the Glock 17 brand, as well as ammunition, have disappeared from the Government Office during the fall. Now a security guard is in his 30s, arrested for theft and serious weapons offenses. He is suspected of stealing a weapon this weekend.

SVT's "Crime of the Week" has straightened out what applies when dealing with weapons inside protective objects and although there are plenty of regulations, it is the security company that has the ultimate responsibility for so-called loan weapons. Higher security requirements are placed on weapons in protective objects.

- Among other things, the weapons must be in locked inner compartments in the safety cabinet and there should be alarms. If it is unmanned then you should perform so-called irregular rounding, says Svante Rendahl, group manager at the police's weapons department.

The security company has the license

According to the police regulations, the security company that holds the license and therefore the responsibility for the safe keeping of the weapons is. The guards employed by the security are continuously tested by the police and they receive a so-called "loan license".

But how the loans go to, it is the security companies themselves who decide and there is no requirement from the police to regularly check if, for example, there is no weapon. The police instead rely on the security company's own control system.

- I'm not surprised that such weapons can get away. It's about the company's routines to keep track of its weapons and personnel, says Svante Rendahl.

Do you think that the regulations should be revised in view of the theft inside the government office?

- Perhaps you should consider what requirements can be placed on the company in terms of what control they have of the weapons and where they are located.
