The six-time MotoGP world champion Marc Marquez was successfully operated on the right shoulder Wednesday in a Barcelona hospital, his Honda team said in a statement.

This operation, it is stated, "is similar, albeit less aggressive, to the one he suffered in the left shoulder at the end of 2018" and aimed to reduce a "recurrent dislocation".

Fired Monday during a winter test session on the circuit of Jerez (southern Spain), Marquez, who felt an embarrassment on the right shoulder, "decided to submit to this intervention in a preventive way after a medical consultation, "explains Honda.

The 2019 world champion, winner of twelve races this season, also fell heavily in the free practice of the Malaysian Grand Prix earlier this month.

No details are given about his convalescence, but his operation of the left shoulder did not prevent him from starting normally the season 2019.

Marquez, who has largely dominated the championship that has just ended, will race in 2020 alongside his brother Alex, Moto2 world champion, in the official Repsol-Honda team. He will aim for a seventh world crown in the queen category, which would allow him to match his Italian rivals Valentino Rossi.
