Nineteen bodies were found Wednesday, November 27 in Maleki, about ten kilometers from the city of Oicha, in the territory of Beni, according to the latest figures given by UN sources. The victims were machete-finished by suspected ADF fighters. This umpteenth kill comes two days after violent demonstrations in Beni against the Monuso.

The attack occurred about 10 km from a blue helmet base. The first assessment given by civil society reported 14 people killed around six in the morning. It is now increased to 19.

Monusco and FARDC quickly coordinated. A first meeting was held in the morning in Beni. A joint mission was dispatched to the area where the massacre took place.

However, in this rapid intervention operation, Monusco has clarified its mission: there will be no forward position or a repositioning of troops in the area. On the other hand, the peacekeepers will protect the civilians and try to find the culprits. No data was provided on the duration and nature of the operation.

One regret for Monusco however: once again, the community warning system did not work.

Mathias Gillmann, coordinator of the UN communications group and acting spokesperson for Monsuco, explains: " Attacks are perpetrated by ADF, in the middle of the night, in the bush, they are people who are taken at random and killed with a machete in a geographical area that we obviously can not cover completely. "

More than 100 people killed since October 30 in at least fifteen attacks. Monusco insists on a more global approach to fight against this violence: " There is a set of actors in Beni, the ADF but also other armed groups, who live from the war economy and who have an interest in that instability and insecurity continue to prevail. "

Meanwhile, the installation of the advanced headquarters of the Armed Forces of the DRC (FARDC) in Beni (North Kivu) begins to take place.
