November 27, 201923.10 The three megacities of the Porto Alegre Regional Court confirmed in the second instance the conviction of Lula da Silva for corruption and money laundering, also raising the penalty imposed on the former Brazilian president from 12 to 17 years. He is accused of having received, as a gift from various construction companies, the use of a residence in Atibaia, in the State of Sao Paulo, as compensation for the preferential treatment given by his government. Lula has already spent 580 days in prison, for a conviction confirmed on appeal in another trial.
