In early 2019, the Swedish Employment Service announced that 132 offices would be closed. At the same time, one in three employees (4,500 people) were notified of termination in a gigantic hard slimming by the Employment Service.

One reason was said that the authority received lower funding in connection with the budget of the Moderates and Christian Democrats winning support in the Riksdag. Another reason stated was that the Employment Service has for several years wanted to close offices and replace them with digital services.

"This is something that we have always been opposed to, but the employment services management has still proceeded with the closure of offices," says Martin Ådahl, Center's labor market policy spokesperson to DN.

Negotiate new regulatory letter

The Government and the partnering parties C and L are now negotiating a new regulatory letter for the Employment Service. One point should be to stop the ongoing closure of the offices.

On Tuesday evening, it is unclear how many and which offices will be affected by the new instructions. The discussions with the government are in the final stages, writes DN.
