Rafael Nadal went to draw his last strength to give Spain his 6th Davis Cup by winning the second singles, facing Denis Shapovalov 6-3, 7-6 (9/7), of the final against Canada, Sunday to Madrid.

Roberto Bautista had won the first singles against Felix Auger-Aliassime 7-6 (7/3), 6-3.

"It has been an incredible week for the whole team and especially for Rafa," said Bautista, paying tribute to his compatriot, who has played five singles and three doubles since Tuesday in this final phase of the tournament. Davis Cup new formula.

Visibly exhausted at the end of the season, the world N.1 has drawn deep in its resources in the tiebreak, especially after missing two first match points.

On the second in particular, the point seemed made while he still had a great forehand to play close to the net. But too insecure, his blow was countered by Shapovalov.

The Majorcan, in turn, saved a set ball in favor of Shapovalov to conclude the match and competition on his next match ball.
