The US and Turkish presidents held a press conference Wednesday evening on political, military and economic issues, and pledged to work for a compromise on the contentious points between Washington and Ankara.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Ankara and Washington stand side by side in order to get rid of ISIS and stabilize the region.

"We were able to return more than 365,000 Syrians to their lands thanks to the peace spring operation in northern Syria," he said.

The Turkish president announced that his country can accommodate one million refugees in the safe area in Syria between six months and two years.

He stressed that the safe area in northern Syria should be under the control of Turkey.

He told a news conference that he and his US counterpart highlighted the need to fight ISIS fighters, and "we have confirmed our determination to fight terrorism."

"We stress our commitment to our agreement with Washington on a ceasefire in northern Syria," he said.

Erdogan stressed the need for the return of foreign fighters in the Islamic State to their countries, adding, "Turkey is more than fighting the Islamic State and arrested more than a thousand fighters of the organization in the recent period."

On another issue, the Turkish president considered that the US House of Representatives' recognition of the so-called Armenian massacres "hurts our relations with Washington and I made it clear to President Trump."

In a related context, Erdogan said he would provide documents and evidence proving that the organization Fethullah Gulen terrorist and killed 251 Turkey and tried to overthrow the government.

For his part, the US president said that Turkey is exerting great efforts in the fight against IS and other terrorist organizations.

The US and Turkish presidents expected a solution on Russia's S400 missile system.

"I told President Trump that Turkey could buy Patriot missiles at an appropriate price," Erdogan said.

The two presidents stressed that European countries should share the burden of hosting Syrian refugees hosted by Turkey.

"Turkey was very cooperative and knew that we would enter certain areas in our fight against IS," Trump said.
