According to Ebrard, he had just talked with Morales by telephone, and he accepted Mexico's offer of asylum.
The Mexican Foreign Ministry noted that "the life and health of Morales are at risk" in Bolivia.
“We have already appealed to the Bolivian Foreign Ministry so that, in accordance with international standards, Morales is guaranteed safe travel,” the head of the Mexican Foreign Ministry said.
Earlier, Mexico expressed its readiness to provide Morales with refuge in the embassy in the Bolivian capital La Paz.
The Kremlin, in turn, said that they had not received a request for asylum from Russia from the Bolivian leadership.
