When we at SVT Nyheter Väst asked for tips from Gullspång, many people heard about the well-functioning integration through the work of the football club. The club itself believes that it has only received the many interested who have appeared. When we visit the club one training evening, one must interpret it as a down-to-earth integration when one of the leaders shouts:

- At 16 o'clock we offer food and it is not a pig, just the way Muslims eat.

Muwfak Mohammed has been a member of the club for eight years and now plays in the A-team.

- The most important thing is the community and getting to know new friends. Dare to meet new people and talk to them, says Muwfak Mohammed.

The club is important

Fares Jamal came here in 2015. The football club became important and he thinks it would have been different if he had not joined the club.

- I was new here and some friends asked if I wanted to join. There is not much to do here in this small town, says Fares Jamal.

Gullspångs IF's work with newly arrived young people over the years now turns out to have produced a long-term result. It is the young people who came to Sweden during the 2010s that make the club live today.

- They are very important. We need them to be able to have teams, ”says Thomas Holmberg, coach.

Weigh into society

Many of these youngsters, who were previously newcomers, now play after many years in the club in the main team. The Football Association becomes a fast way into society.

- In addition, many are stepping into our A-squad now, so it's great fun to see that they are doing well, says Matilda Fröjd.

Now the focus of the club is to also make the girls stay in the club.

- It's not really okay for them from home to play football, but we see a new trend that there will be more girls when things go well for the women's team, says Matilda Fröjd.
